Brief History: Diana Prince was born simply “Diana” to the Amazons of Themyscira, an island located near Greece. She was no commoner, however, but the daughter of Queen Hippolyta. As fate would have it, her birth was a rapturous occasion, one that foretold the fulfillment of prophecy. The child was the woman embodiment of all of the goddess’ strongest attributes come to truition. She would have the wisdom of Athena, the beauty of Aphrodite, the agility or Artemis, the cunning of Hera, the constitution of Demeter and the physical strength comparable to ten of the world’s finest athletes combined. According to the myth, bound by Aphrodities Law, Diana would retain her god-like abilities until she were chained by a lover.

It was on Themyscira Diana was bestowed her characteristic items. During her Amazonian training, once Diana came of age in the matriarchal society, Queen Hippolyta handed down the lasso of truth, which forced all those bound by it to speak nothing but validity. The Lariat of Hestia or “Lasso of Truth” is indestructible by any physical means and can only be damaged or broken with truth itself is compromised. The lariat was made by the god Hephaestus from the golden brindle of Gaea and burns with the fires of Hestia when it forces the truth from whom it has confined. The Sandals of Hermes, or talaria, granted Diana great speed and flight.

Diana was also bestowed an unbreakable tiara which could be used as a ranged weapon, like a chakram or boomerang, mystically returning to her once thrown. Her tiara is mysteriously sharp, causing deep lacerations. And guantlets which were formed from the remnants of Athena's legendary shield, the Aegis,. The shield was made from the indestructible hide of the great she-goat, Amalthea, who suckled Zeus as an infant. These forearm-guards have thus far proven indestructible and able to absorb the impact of incoming attacks, allowing Wonder Woman to deflect automatic weapon fire and energy blasts. Diana also has the ability to slam the bracelets together to create a wave of concussive force capable of making Superman's ears bleed.

When Hippolyta gave these powerful weapons, gifts ,to her daughter, she revealed an important condition. Should Diana ever remove the gauntlets from her wrists, she would fall into a state of Amazonian berserker rage that would increase her strength, agility and accuracy to their fullest potential. It was in this rage, however, that her mind would become hazy and rash. Hippolyta warned that the berserker rage was very dangerous and should only be used in the extreme desperation.

In adulthood, Diana took her quest for peace off of the island of Themyscira. She promised her mother to fight for justice and pursue humanitarianism, for the sake of mankind. Her powers should not be confined to one island but used to liberate the suffering around the world.
